Who we are
A not for profit corporation whose purpose is to participate in planning, promoting, and administering community development programs and projects. Members are interested citizens with different backgrounds.
What we do
• State law authorizes us to acquire or lease property from the City and sells or sublease property to create jobs. The LDC’s predecessor was instrumental in the leases/purchase structure for the Bombardier plant.
• We recommend loan underwriting guidelines and review loan applications for loans from the City’s Economic Development Revolving Loan Fund.
• We operate PlattInfo. PlattInfo is three electronic information kiosks which provide affordable advertising for businesses and city artistic and cultural.
• We provide input to the City Council in the city planning process. Recently, the LDC evaluated proposals for establishing a marina on the City waterfront.
Who can join?
Membership is open to everyone age 18 and over. Organizations may join. No dues. No business or residency requirement. We want everyone who has an interest in the future of the City.
What is expected of me?
Members are asked to attend one meeting a year to elect a Board of Directors and approve changes in organizational documents. (General membership meetings may be held more frequently.) Members will be asked to serve on committees in areas of interest. The Directors are elected by the members. The Officers are appointed by the Directors.
